And recently we attempted Sticky Buns for a special Saturday morning meal. These are very similar to a recipe I posted over a year ago for Easy Butterscotch Rolls. Very similar. The ones from the kids cookbook are called "Good Morning Sticky Buns" and they can be found on page 50 (if you happen to have the cookbook).
I'm here to give you our version. Cause we rarely follow a recipe as it is written. We always tweak ingredients or directions. We're such rebels in the kitchen.
- 2 tsp butter substitute (we used Smart Balance), butter or margarine
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or your favorite nut
- 16 frozen dough rolls (we used Rhodes brand, half of a big bag)
- 1 small (3.4 oz) package of butterscotch pudding (I used the kind you have to cook, but the recipe called for instant)
- 1/2 cup melted butter or margarine
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
Spread the 2 teaspoons of butter on the inside of a Bundt pan. My kiddos used their fingers. Sprinkle the nuts on the bottom.
Place dough rolls in pan over the nuts. Sprinkle the pudding mix over the dough.
Melt the butter in the microwave. Add the brown sugar and cinnamon to the butter. Stir.
Feel free to taste test the spoon once you are done stirring. My kids liked that step! Pour the butter mixture over the dough rolls.
Cover with plastic wrap and let sit on the counter for a few hours. Put in the refrigerator over night to chill and let the dough rise.
In the morning bake at 350F for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown. Invert Bundt pan onto a serving plate and serve warm. Yummy!
And yes...we will make these again sometime. We already have in the past, just a little differently.
